Endoscopy and Biopsy
Endoscopy is the first-line diagnostic test to see the inner lining of the stomach and esophagus. When performing an endoscopy, Dr. Ali sees inside the digestive tract. He does this via a thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera. When he notes any abnormalities, he may conduct a biopsy to remove a section of tissue that will be sent for testing to determine if cancer cells are present and their nature.
Imaging Tests
Dr. Ali will most probably order some imaging tests if he feels he needs a better comprehension of the extent of the cancer in your body, including CTs, PETs, and MRIs. These imaging techniques provide the most precise pictures of the stomach, the esophagus, and the tissues around that area. These pictures would show him whether the blobs of cancer have spread to other parts of the body or remained localized.
Staging and Treatment Planning
Once the diagnosis of cancer is confirmed, Dr. Ali stages the tumor with great meticulousness to know whether the disease has extended or spread elsewhere in the body. The stage is the key to tailor the treatment to the patient's best interest. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, radiologists, and surgeons, Dr. Ali creates an individualized treatment plan regarding patient-specific needs.
